make room for wonder
make room for wonder has stayed with me throughout the weeks before and after my first exhibition. I kept coming back to the work, adding new layers, painting over old ones, letting it change and evolve.
I was especially drawn to the 140 × 100 cm format. After working mostly on medium-sized pieces for the exhibition, returning to a larger canvas felt like a shift. But it also reminded me of what becomes possible when you give yourself enough space to explore. I did exactly that, both on the canvas and throughout the process. No rush, no pressure. The painting developed slowly over several weeks, with plenty of room to breathe and enough space for wonder.
The work is driven by contrast, dynamic brushstrokes and bold, dominant colours. As so often, I found myself instinctively drawn to reds and burgundy, balanced by shades of blue.
